Boys volleyball was started in 19??. Coach Domanic was the first volleyball coach.
Coach Suppok was the next coach after Daryl Domanic.
Coach Staffen started as a JV coach under coach Suppok for the 1999 and 2000 season.
In 2000, the volleyball team was in section 3 with Central Catholic, Clairton, Penn Hills, Plum, Steel Valley, and Woodland Hills. The JV record was 11-6 in 2000.
Mr. Staffen also coached the Thomas Jefferson girl’s varsity volleyball team in 2000. They finished as Section champs, the first time since 1979. The girl’s record was 14 and 2 in the season. The girls made the WPIAL playoffs. The girls defeated Quaker Valley in the first round in the playoffs (3-1) and lost to Knoch in the second round (1-3).
2001 - Mr Staffen coached the boy’s varsity team to an (9-8) overall season. They finish with a section record (6-6) fourth place finish in section 3. Section 3 consisted of Penn Hills, Plum, Central Catholic, Thomas Jefferson, Woodland Hills, and Steel Valley. Steve Beckjord #9 Middle hitter and Josh Ramsey #7 outside hitter were selected as second team all section.
2002 - Mr Staffen coached the boy’s varsity team to an (7-9) overall record and a (6-6) section record finishing in 4th place in section 3.
2003 - Mr Staffen coached the boy’s varsity team to an (9-7) overall record and a (7-6) section record finishing in 3rd place in section 3 earning their very first playoffs appearance. Thomas Jefferson played Upper Saint Clair in the first round and lost (0-3).
2004 - Mr. Staffen coached the boy’s varsity team to an (4-10) overall record and a (2-6) section record finishing in 4th place in section 3.
2005 - Mr Staffen coached the boy’s varsity team to an (14-4) overall record and a (8-2) section record finishing in 2nd place in section 6 earning their second appearance in the WPIAL playoffs. Thomas Jefferson played Mt. Lebanon the first round and lost (0-3). Rob Moeslein #10 setter/outside hitter, Chris Ozcypok #12 outside hitter, and Cory Haywiser #25 outside hitter were selected to first team all-section all stars. Andrew Tomer #28 middle hitter, Jake Kakareka #3 middle hitter, Nick Wytiaz #4 setter were named to second team all-section all stars.
2006 - Mr Staffen coached the boy's varsity team to an (13-1) overall record and (11-1) section record finishing in 1st place tied with Baldwin. This was the first Section Champs in TJ history. This is the 3rd WPIAL playoff appearances. TJ also finished in 2nd place at the Seneca Valley Tournament beating OLSH, Shaler, in the playoffs and losing to Seneca in the final game. Pool A consisted of Bethel Park, Gateway, Pine Richland, and Schenley which TJ finished 1st. TJ entered the WPIAL playoffs and had to play at Penn Hills in the first round beating Penn Hills 3 to 2. TJ then faced Hempfield ranked 12th in the state and lost 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 25-21). Players that made All Section were: 1st team - Corey Haywiser, Jake Kakeraka, Rob Moeslein, Chris Oczypok 2nd team - Dent Holden, Nick Wytaiz ALL WPIAL Team: Jake Kakeraka - Honorable Mention.

TJ lost to Deer Lakes (0-3) in the playoffs. Latrobe, Derry, Steel Valley, Belle Vernon made up the teams in section 3 AA. All Section 2nd team - Tom Yogan, Trevor Wildman
